How to reset your high speed cable or DSL Router or Modem or both.
If you have a router or modem, occasionally you may need to reset it to resolve connection problems. Firstly, if you have any security settings please make sure they are recorded so that you can re-enter them if required. You may need your ISP's Username and Password for Email and or Internet Access.
1. Turn off your computer(s)
2. Check your cable or DSL and power connections to make sure they are in the correct ports:
(these colours do not mean anything, they are just to show differentiation of the connections)
- Ethernet Cable goes from Modem to WAN (Wide Area Network) port on router
- DSL or CABLE input from high speed source- cable or DSL
- Ethernet from one of 4 LAN ports(Local Area Network) to Ethernet port on Computer
- A/C adapter ( power in from power source
3. Now that you have checked that the cables are correctly installed, unplug the a/c or power cords from the BACK of the modem , router taking care not to mix them up.
4. Remove the the ethernet cables from each port and plug them back in till you hear a snap just to make sure they are seated correctly.
5. Plug the power cord back into the CABLE or DSL modem first- when you see the " Online" light stop blicking, it means that it is synchronized with the server and you can now plug the power back into the Router.
6. Thurn the computer(s) back on and ensure you can access the Internet.
