How to install programs in Compatibility Mode in Windows 7
You may have some software for previous versions of Windows that are not compatible with Windows 7 32 or 64 bit. You can probably still install them if you follow this procedure instead of trying to install them the normal way.
FIRST OF ALL - ALWAYS MAKE A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT JUST IN CASE!
1. Insert your CD but cancel it if it starts to try to install. Navigate to the CD or DVD contents and locate the programs installer file. It is usually called Setup or Install. If you have a downloaded program, go to it's folder and find the setup file.
2. Right click on the setup file and select " Properties "
3. A window opens with several tabs across the top - Click on the Compatibility tab
Click on image for larger view
4. Put a check mark in the first box which activates the " Run the program in compatibility mode for" and then select Windows XP Service Pack 2 if that is what you program runs best in. If not, make a selection from the other choices.
5. Next you put a check mark in the appropriate " Settings"
6. If your program states it must be run in Administrator Mode, then check that box. As well, check the box for all users if there are more than 1 registered users for the computer.
7.Click Apply and OK to close that Window.
8. Next, go to that setup file or exe file and double click it to start the installation.
Hint: When installing any program, disable your Antivirus programs Active Protection. This may mean shutting it off completely during the installation. Remember to turn it back on when you are finished, or if you need to restart the computer it should come back automatically.
